Thanks Darlene, my boundaries are pretty standard for here, but of course not for everyone. They're not strict, just more of a 'tailor what you wear to suit the type of situation you're in'. For example, when visiting elderly family, wearing a skimpy outfit would not be my first choice. Relating back to your modesty post, I think I try to dress somewhat in the middle of the scale as that's what's most comfortable for me. When I talk about boundaries for my children, it will be while they are still children rather than when they reach an age where they should choose for themselves, if that makes sense. There's a fine balance, and while I would always teach them to be individual, I would also explain the reasons why I believe boundaries to be important. If they choose to go against that, I'm sure it's something I would learn to accept.

"The female form can be both sexual and non-sexual depending on the context. Even if a boy was to be caught off guard by his hormones, it is the parents’ job (and the school’s job as well) to teach children what is and isn’t appropriate behaviour – hormones are something we all experience and learn to keep under control when necessary." I think this is a simple but often overlooked point when it comes to a part of the modesty debate. Parents need to teach their children to value others for more than their appearance, to not teach children to associate sexuality or sexual availability with what a person wears, and to treat others as they would want to be treated. It's not enough for people to say things shouldn't be this way. We need to actively encourage others and the next generation to modify the behaviors. Great post!

I really enjoyed reading this, Sophia. I'm learning to be less judgmental as well. I'm also really curious as to what boundaries you draw for yourself and what boundaries you would draw for your children, and what factors into those decisions.
